The Wildly Successful Bedtime Book for Parents Goes the F**K to E Starting on June 14

(New York, NY May 25th, 2011) Akashic Books (www.akashicbooks.com), an independent New York publisher dedicated to the reverse-gentrification of the literary world, and Open Road Integrated Media (www.openroadmedia.com), a digital publisher and multimedia content company, today announced that Open Road will digitize, distribute, and market ebook versions of Go the F**k to Sleep, a bedtime book for parents that has already received extraordinary attention worldwide. The traditional ebook will go on sale June 14, 2011, the same date as the hardcover book. Open Road and Akashic are also developing an enhanced ebook that will be released during the holiday season.

California Book Award–winning author Adam Mansbach’s verses perfectly capture the familiar—and unspoken—tribulations of putting our little angels to bed for the night. He begins a conversation about parenting in the process, granting us permission to admit our frustration, and laugh at its absurdity. Bright and whimsical hand-painted illustrations by Ricardo Cortés evoke the traditional bedtime story in clever contrast to Mansbach’s hilarious verses.

Prior to publication, Go the F**k to Sleep skyrocketed to the top of Amazon’s bestseller lists in both the U.S. and U.K., causing Akashic Books to advance its publication from October to June, generating buzz in the New York Times, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, UK Daily Mail, the Today Show’s Mom blog, and many other international and national outlets.

“Through this partnership with Open Road we can take full advantage of this unique title’s potential as an ebook,” said Johnny Temple, Publisher of Akashic Books. “We are in awe of the vigor, savvy, and intelligence that Jane and her team bring to Open Road and feel fortunate to be launching our first project together.”

“We are thrilled to be partners in the publishing of the bestseller Go the F**k to Sleep,” said Jane Friedman, CEO of Open Road. “The book is off to an incredible start and we look forward to working with Akashic Books to keep the momentum going. Akashic Books and author/illustrator team Adam Mansbach and Ricardo Cortés have created a story that will bring laughter to parents for decades to come.”

“The opportunities for marketing Go the F**k to Sleep are limitless,” said Rachel Chou, CMO of Open Road. “From parenting/child-centered blogs and sites to those focused on humor and lifestyle—the content is universal. Open Road's specialty in making full use of social media and online advertising will help keep the conversation at its current frenzied level.”
