General Internships
Founded by former CEO of Harper Collins Jane Friedman and Producer Jeff Sharp, Open Road Media looks to have strong minded, focused, and willing to do what it takes to get the job done interns for Summer. This internship program is offered for credit only, and offers unique options for students.
You may apply for a general internship where your will have the opportunity to work in all departments. For those who already have a focused interest are encouraged to apply for a specific internship in our editorial, publishing, production, or marketing departments.
Our program includes monthly walk-throughs of the company's agenda and workflow. Giving students the opportunity to not only step into the middle of projects, but to understand where it all starts and finishes. There are bi-weekly intern discussion groups where overall progress is discussed. This also offers

This is an extremely competitive internship with only 10 slots available. Only serious and determined applicants need apply. Extreme interest and background in literary fields and post production are a plus.
Ad/Promo Design Intern
Open Road Integrated Media has an opening for the spring semester for an ad/promo intern. Intern must be able to receive school credit. 15 to 20 hours per week in its design and marketing departments.
The ad/promo intern will assist the design department in a number of tasks related to ebook and POD marketing, including creation of banner and other Internet ads, print ads, back-of-book ads, posters, postcards, and miscellaneous in-house materials. Will aid in preparing files for press, purchasing and sizing stock art images, and departmental administrative tasks such as file sizing, folder organization, and presentation prep work.
This is a fast-paced, high-profile startup—details and deadlines are of the essence. The right individual will have the unique opportunity to experience all aspects of the marketing design process in a next-generation publishing environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lay out ads under management of Art Director
- Prepare final materials for go-live
- Stock image and rights research
- Create marketing materials such as Reader’s Guides and Author Bios as needed
Requirements
- Expert in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Photoshop
- Experience coding html a plus
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to juggle multiple and varied tasks
- Demonstrated interest in design, marketing, layout creation, and next-generation publishing
- Knowledge of ereader devices and formats for ebooks helpful

Design & Production Intern
Open Road Integrated Media has an opening for the spring semester for one unpaid (school credit) intern to work 15 to 20 hours per week in its design/production department.
The design & production intern will assist the design department in a number of tasks related to ebook and POD design and production, including typesetting book interiors, inputting editorial corrections to books, assisting with branding projects, preparing files for press, purchasing and sizing stock art images, and departmental administrative tasks (scanning, folder organization, etc.).

- Add cobranding to existing covers; create cobranding templates as needed
- Stock image and rights research
- Creation of new and backlist back ads
- Input 1P and 2P corrections of proofread book interiors from editorial
- Typesetting books
- Create marketing materials such as Reader’s Guides and Author Bios as needed
- Assist with creation of epubs as needed by Production

Digital Marketing Intern
The marketing department accepts applications for internships on a rolling basis. Internships can be for credit or job training.
Skills Needed:
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and have an interest in marketing and ebooks, as well as online experience or an equivalent facility with new media and social networking. A strong writing background will be helpful, as will experience in advertising/promotions or publicity. Undergraduate degree required.
Projects and Responsibilities May Include:
- Building blog and website outreach lists
- Writing copy for advertisements and publicity pitches, retailers, blog posts, and other outreach
- Research marketing milestones for Open Road campaigns and authors
- Working closely with marketing team and CMO to form retail strategies for major online retail outlets
- Monitoring social networks for author stats and activities
- Assisting with business development research

Interactive Production Intern
Open Road Media looks for at least one interactive production intern each semester. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, organized, and have an interest in the website management, production, and content management, as well as online experience and facility with new media and social networking.
Projects and Responsibilities May Include - Developing content for ORIM website and internal use, including video and photos
- Assisting with new project development, scheduling and deployment of online content
- Processing marketing material for promotional/advertisement use
- Supervising metadata entry for editorial and marketing purposes
- Participating in campaigns for social networking platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pintrest, etc.)
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree

- Interest in web design, development, and programming
- Familiarity with reading devices and platforms
- Basic understanding of HTML5 and CSS3
Managing Editorial Intern
Open Road Integrated Media has an opening for two unpaid (school credit) interns to work 15 to 20 hours per week in its publishing operations department.
The managing editorial intern will assist the managingeditorial department in a number of tasks related to ebook and POD production,including data entry, preparing hard copy files for digitization, device QA,departmental administrative tasks (mailing, scanning, etc.), and someproofreading.
The managing editorial intern will report to the managing editor and work closely with editorial, production, and design team members.

Primary Responsibilities
- Enter descriptive copy and other metadata as needed in title management system
- Create title and copyright pages
- Prep books for digitization
- Proofread POD files
- Perform quality assurance of Open Road titles on major reading devices (iPad, Kindle, and others)
- Check current Open Road titles on Apple, Amazon, and other major etailers to ensure they are active and display the correct metadata
- Assist in keeping title reports up-to-date and accurate

Additional tasks may include optimizingInDesign files for output to ePUB, implementing updates to existing ebook files(i.e., swapping in new covers, inserting back ads, making corrections), andlinking and bookmarking PDFs for distribution to retail partners.
The digital production intern will report to the managing editorand work closely with editorial, production, and design team members.
