Eber Pettit

Eber Pettit (1802–1885) was an abolitionist and a conductor on the Underground Railroad. Operating out of Fredonia, New York, for at least two decades preceding the Civil War, Pettit helped runaway slaves make their way to Canada. In 1868, he began chronicling his experiences for a local newspaper, and they were eventually published as Sketches in the History of the Underground Railroad (1879).
